Rebecca Cheptegei, a renowned Ugandan Olympic athlete, tragically died last week in a gasoline-fueled attack in Kenya. Cheptegei, a decorated marathon runner, met her demise in a vicious crime that shook the international community and stirred calls for heightened protection for female athletes against domestic violence.
Born to a farming family, Rebecca Cheptegei represented Uganda with pride and made the nation proud when she won medals in marathons around the globe, most recently at the 2024 Paris Olympics, placing 44th.
